Evidence-based, structured literacy lessons for K–5 students in internationally mobile and expat families. Expert-led. Delivered online worldwide.
Dr. Jenn Overstreet has spent 15 years inside international school classrooms across the US, Italy, and Saudi Arabia, teaching children to read and training other teachers in evidence-based literacy methods. That second part matters. Working at the level of teacher training means understanding not just how to reach individual children, but why so many instructional approaches fail to reach them in the first place.
What she has seen across every school, every curriculum, and every context is the same pattern: when a child is not reading, the instruction has not found them yet. That is not a flaw in the child. It is a gap in the system. Bright Spiral Literacy exists because that gap is solvable, and because internationally mobile families deserve access to the kind of specialist who understands both the science of reading and the specific world their child is growing up in.
Her doctorate in psychology grounds her in the cognitive science of how children develop reading and language. Her K-12 Special Education license, school principal credential, and instructional coaching certification reflect the full range of what she has been trusted to do inside schools. Her 15 years in IB, Cambridge, and American curriculum environments inform everything that happens in a BSL lesson.
Watch: Welcome to Bright Spiral Literacy
For internationally mobile families, reading gaps have a specific shape. Curriculum changes with every school move. Progress made in one country does not always transfer to the next. A child who was on track in Singapore can look like they are behind in Amsterdam, not because anything changed in them, but because the instruction changed around them. Most tutoring services are not built for that reality.
BSL lessons are built on the science of reading: the research that has transformed how the field understands decoding, phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension. Every lesson is precise, structured, and matched to exactly what your child needs, based on a formal assessment, not a guess.
The school says your child is within the normal range. You can see that something is not right.
You have tried the apps, the reading programs, maybe a tutor. Reading time is still a fight.
Your child is working hard. You are starting to wonder whether something is wrong with them. Nothing is wrong with them.
You have moved countries and the new school does not know your child yet. The progress from last year feels like it is slipping.
You are not looking for another warm person with good intentions. You need the right method, applied by someone who actually knows what they are doing.
Reading and writing don't develop in a straight line. They spiral upward. Each skill builds on the last, gaining strength and momentum as children grow. This method meets every child exactly where they are and lifts them higher.
One of our Grade 1 students came to BSL reversing letters and avoiding books entirely. By spring break, she was choosing chapter books on her own. Her parents hadn't seen her pick up a book voluntarily in two years.

You have the report card. You have the MAP scores. You may even have a stack of teacher comments that seem to contradict each other. What you don't have is a clear picture of what any of it means for your child's reading, or what to do next.
A Parent Literacy Strategy Session is a 60-minute Zoom call with Dr. Overstreet. You bring your child's data. She helps you understand what it's telling you, where the strengths are, where the gaps are, and what to prioritize. Within 48 hours of your call, you receive a written plan with specific next steps tailored to your child.
This session is for parents who want expert eyes on their child's literacy picture before committing to tutoring, or who want a clear strategy to support their child's reading themselves.
Your session fee counts toward tutoring
If you enroll in a Complete or Signature tutoring package within 14 days of your session, your session fee is applied in full toward your package price.
A short quiz your child completes with you. Takes about 10 minutes. You get a personal profile of your child as a reader, a book recommendation chosen for exactly who they are, and a note on what their answers tell you as their parent, sent to your inbox when they're done.
Your results are sent to your inbox at the end of the quiz. No account needed.
"More time doesn't mean more progress. For young readers, the research consistently shows that short, frequent sessions produce stronger outcomes than long ones."
